Vehicles' licenses extended till June 30th: Ministry of Road Transport and Highways

Vehicles licenses extended till June 30th

As a primary relief to approximately 23 crore car owners and 1.2 crore vans, plying in India carrying critical goods, the Ministry of Road Transport has prolonged the validity of all required documents for cars from March 31 to June 30.

"It has come to the awareness of the authorities that citizens are facing difficulties in renewing various files," mentioned the order, which said the validity of documents associated with Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 -- such as using license, automobile health tests, state/national permits -- may be extended to June 30, 2020.

As there are multiple instances that police were halting vehicles on the streets for the absence of proper documentation and papers, the Ministry has stated, "enforcement authorities are recommended to treat files that have expired as of Feb 1, 2020 valid until June 30, 2020".
